New York Attorney General Letitia James has called on current and former DoorDash delivery workers to file claims for restitution in a $16.75 million settlement. The deadline for eligible workers to submit claims is December 31, 2025, at 11:59 p.m.
The settlement follows an investigation by the Office of the Attorney General (OAG), which found that DoorDash misled both consumers and its delivery workers, known as Dashers. The company was found to have used customer tips intended for Dashers to subsidize their guaranteed pay instead of providing the tips on top of base earnings.
Attorney General James stated, “Delivery workers keep this city running, and they deserve to see every dollar earned for their hard work. I encourage all eligible current and former Dashers to submit their claims right away so they can receive the compensation they are owed. My office will keep fighting to ensure every worker in New York is treated with dignity and respect.”
Earlier this year, DoorDash agreed to pay $16.75 million as part of a settlement that also requires changes to its payment practices. These changes include improved transparency for both customers and Dashers, as well as better access to order history for delivery workers. The funds from the settlement are being distributed entirely among those who delivered for DoorDash in New York between May 2017 and September 2019 and had tips applied toward their guaranteed pay.
Notices regarding eligibility have been sent out by Atticus Administration via mail, email, or text message. These notices contain instructions on how eligible Dashers can file a claim online. Approximately 63,000 individuals are eligible under the terms of the settlement; more than 30,000 have already submitted claims as of December 3.
The OAG’s investigation determined that during the period from 2017 to 2019, DoorDash operated a guaranteed pay model where customer tips were not provided directly to Dashers but were instead used by DoorDash to cover previously promised wages. Customers received prompts encouraging them to tip with assurances that “Dashers will always receive 100 percent of the tip,” but disclosures about how tips were actually used were difficult to find during ordering.
Those who need help filing a claim can contact Atticus Administration directly or reach out by phone or email for further information.
