U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced that Edwuin Rogelio Lozano, a 46-year-old Colombian citizen, has pleaded guilty to illegal re-entry into the United States. The plea was entered before U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara in Buffalo, New York. Lozano was sentenced to time served and subsequently handed over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Fauzia K. Mattingly, who managed the case, confirmed that Lozano lacks legal status in the country. In December 2020, he was deported from the United States following an order of removal. On April 6, 2025, Department of Homeland Security agents found him as a passenger in a vehicle at a local hotel in Erie County. Lozano admitted his illegal presence in the country.

The case is part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative aimed at addressing illegal immigration and combating cartels and transnational criminal organizations to safeguard communities from violent crime.

The investigation leading to Lozano’s plea and sentencing was conducted by U.S. Border Patrol under the supervision of Patrol Agent in Charge Martin B. Coombs.
