Ryan M. Newman, a 34-year-old resident of Corning, NY, has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for the production of child pornography. U.S. District Judge Meredith A. Vacca also imposed a 15-year supervised release following his prison term.
Newman was previously convicted of similar offenses in New York State in 2012 and was required to register as a Level 3 Sex Offender, indicating a high risk of re-offending and posing a threat to public safety.
In January 2021, Snapchat reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) that one of its users had uploaded child pornography. This report led to an investigation by the New York State Police, who executed a search warrant on Newman’s residence in 2022. The search revealed that Newman had uploaded child pornography on Snapchat and possessed additional illegal material on his electronic devices.
Despite these findings, Newman remained free until April 2024 when further evidence emerged. The FBI Corning office received information about child pornography involving a local victim being distributed to an undercover agent in Illinois. Investigations confirmed that Newman had sexually abused the child and produced pornographic content.
The investigation involved efforts from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Corning Office under Acting Special Agent-in-Charge Mark Grimm and the Corning Police Department led by Chief Kenzie Spaulding.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Kyle P. Rossi managed the prosecution.
