U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo has announced that Jose Miguel Nunez Carmona, a 30-year-old citizen of the Dominican Republic, pleaded guilty to forging an alien resident card. The plea was entered before U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr., and Nunez Carmona was sentenced to time served before being handed over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Sasha Mascarenhas, who managed the case, explained that on April 23, 2025, during an encounter with U.S. Border Patrol Agents, Nunez Carmona admitted his illegal status in the United States. He presented a United States Permanent Resident Card as proof of identity and lawful status; however, agents identified it as fraudulent due to missing security features, blurry watermarks, low-quality background imaging, and incorrect fonts. Further investigation revealed that Nunez Carmona had never been issued permanent residency in the United States and that the USCIS number on the card did not match any individual. Nunez Carmona confessed to agents that the card was fake.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), while also protecting communities from violent crime perpetrators.

The investigation leading to this plea and sentencing was conducted by U.S. Border Patrol under the leadership of Patrol Agent in Charge Martin B. Coombs.
