A federal grand jury has indicted Jaime Smith, 37, of Buffalo, New York, on several drug-related charges. U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced that Smith faces charges of narcotics conspiracy, possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, and possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and crack cocaine. If convicted, Smith could face a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, up to life imprisonment, and a fine of up to $10 million.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Donna Duncan stated: “According to the indictment, between January 2022, and May 2024, Smith conspired with others to possess and sell methamphetamine, fentanyl, and crack cocaine.”

The case is part of Operation Take Back America. This national initiative by the Department of Justice focuses on addressing illegal immigration and dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations.

The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations under Special Agent-in-Charge Erin Keegan; the Drug Enforcement Administration under Special Agent-in-Charge Frank Tarantino III from the New York Field Division; and the New York State Police under Major Amie P. Feroleto.
