U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced that Wilson Oswaldo Galvan-Lopez, a 25-year-old Guatemalan citizen, pleaded guilty to illegal reentry in the United States. The plea took place before U.S. District Judge Meredith A. Vacca in Rochester, New York. Galvan-Lopez was sentenced to time served and handed over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas M. Testani stated that Galvan-Lopez had no legal status in the United States. He was deported from the U.S. to Guatemala in May 2023 but reentered the country illegally without proper authorization afterward. On March 24, 2025, he was discovered during a traffic stop on Orange Street in Rochester.

The case is part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at combating illegal immigration and dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs) while protecting communities from violent crime.

The investigation leading to Galvan-Lopez’s plea and sentencing was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations under Special Agent-in-Charge Erin Keegan’s direction.
