In a recent lawsuit filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, Jennifer Caruso-Jones, a seasoned investment banker, has accused the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) and its subsidiary RBC Capital Markets, LLC of systemic sex discrimination. The complaint details Caruso-Jones’s 23-year career in investment banking, including 14 years with RBC, where she rose to the position of Managing Director. Despite her exemplary performance and reviews, Caruso-Jones alleges that she faced significant pay disparities compared to male colleagues, discriminatory practices related to maternity leave, and was ultimately forced out of her role as younger males were hired in her place. The lawsuit claims that such discrimination is part of a broader pattern at RBC affecting other women in senior roles. Caruso-Jones seeks damages under multiple statutes including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
