The Office of the New York State Attorney General will offer its Election Protection Hotline for the upcoming general election on November 4, 2025, as well as during the early voting period from October 25 to November 2. The hotline is intended to help voters resolve issues related to absentee ballots, early mail ballots, or in-person voting at polling places. A guide with frequently asked questions is also available to assist voters with matters such as absentee and early mail ballot procedures and voter registration.
Attorney General Letitia James stated, “Our right to vote is the foundation of our democracy, and every voter should be able to freely exercise that right. My office will be available through Election Day to help anyone who faces challenges voting and will continue working to protect free and fair elections throughout New York state. I am proud to support New Yorkers as they make their voices heard at the ballot box.”
Voters who encounter problems can call the hotline at (866) 390-2992 or submit complaints online. The hotline operates from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM during early voting (October 25–November 2), and from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM on Election Day, November 4. It will also be open on November 3 and November 5 between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Written requests can be submitted online at any time. Both calls and written requests are handled by attorneys and staff from the Attorney General’s office.
The Attorney General’s office has run this hotline since November 2012, receiving hundreds or thousands of complaints each election cycle from across New York State. The office works with local election officials to address these concerns and has previously taken legal action against improper voter registration purges and to ensure equitable access to early voting.
All registered voters in New York have a right to accessible elections. Polls are open from 6:00 AM until 9:00 PM on Election Day, with those in line before closing allowed to vote. Voters are also protected against coercion or intimidation by any individual or official.
The hotline accepts complaints about violations of statutes enforced by the Attorney General’s office, including those under the New York Voting Rights Act.
Coordination of the Election Protection Hotline is managed by Lindsay McKenzie, Section Chief of the Voting Rights Section, along with other members of her team within the Civil Rights Bureau.
