Edward McKeraghan, a 59-year-old resident of Syracuse, New York, has pled guilty in United States District Court to charges of possessing child pornography. He also admitted to violating the conditions of his federal supervised release. The announcement was made by United States Attorney John A. Sarcone III and Craig L. Tremaroli, Special Agent in Charge of the Albany Field Office of the FBI.

McKeraghan, previously convicted as a sex offender and on supervised release for a prior child pornography offense, acknowledged possessing child sexual abuse material on an unreported internet-capable phone. This phone was found during a routine home visit by the United States Probation Office.

Sentencing is set for October 15, 2025. For the current offense, McKeraghan faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison and could receive up to 20 years. He may also be fined up to $250,000 and face supervised release ranging from at least five years to life. Additionally, he faces up to two more years for violating his supervised release terms.

U.S. Attorney John A. Sarcone III commented on the case stating, “Repeat sex offenders pose a grave threat to society, particularly to our children. My office will continue to vigorously prosecute all child exploitation offenses in the Northern District of New York.”

FBI Special Agent Craig L. Tremaroli added that McKeraghan’s actions are “especially disturbing” given his status as a convicted predator on supervised release. He emphasized that protecting children is a priority for the FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force.

The investigation is being handled by the FBI’s Albany Division Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force with assistance from the United States Probation Office. Assistant United States Attorney Lisa M. Fletcher is prosecuting the case as part of Project Safe Childhood.

Project Safe Childhood aims to combat child sexual exploitation nationwide by coordinating federal, state, and local resources for locating offenders and rescuing victims.
