A Pakistani citizen, Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, 20, also known as Shahzeb Jadoon, has been extradited from Canada to the United States. The extradition is linked to an indictment filed in the Southern District of New York. Khan faces charges for attempting to provide material support and resources to ISIS and attempting acts of terrorism transcending national boundaries. His initial court appearance is scheduled for June 11.

Attorney General Pamela Bondi stated, “The foreign terrorist organization ISIS remains a clear and present danger to the American people, and our Jewish citizens are especially targeted by evil groups like these.” She added that the Department of Justice would prosecute Khan fully.

FBI Director Kash Patel commented on the situation: “Khan allegedly tried to enter the United States to commit an attack on the Jewish community in New York City.” He credited the FBI and its partners for preventing this plan and ensuring Khan’s extradition.

U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton explained that Khan planned a deadly attack on a Jewish center in New York City using automatic weapons in support of ISIS. Clayton emphasized that law enforcement efforts thwarted this antisemitic plan.

Khan was provisionally arrested in Canada on September 4, 2024. According to allegations, he attempted travel from Canada to New York City with intentions of executing a mass shooting at a Brooklyn Jewish center. Beginning around November 2023, Khan shared ISIS propaganda online and communicated with undercover officers about his plans.

In discussions with undercover officers, Khan detailed his plans for an attack using AR-style rifles targeting locations within City-1 before shifting focus to New York City. He identified specific dates he deemed suitable for attacks based on historical events.

Khan’s arrest occurred near Ormstown, Canada when authorities intercepted him approximately 12 miles from the U.S.-Canada border after traveling across Canada in three separate cars.

If convicted of providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization and attempting acts of terrorism transcending national boundaries, Khan could face life imprisonment. Sentencing will be determined by a federal district court judge following U.S. Sentencing Guidelines.

The case investigation involves multiple FBI field offices with assistance from Canadian law enforcement. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kaylan E. Lasky and David J. Robles along with Trial Attorney Kevin C. Nunnally are prosecuting the case.

It is important to note that complaints or indictments contain allegations only; all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt in court.
