A visually-impaired woman is taking legal action against a beauty company, alleging that its website is inaccessible to blind users. Erika Alexandria filed a class-action complaint on November 26, 2025, in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York against Kosette, Inc., claiming that the company’s website violates her rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Erika Alexandria, who relies on screen-reading software due to her blindness, accuses Kosette, Inc. of failing to design and maintain its website in a way that allows equal access for visually impaired individuals. According to Alexandria’s complaint, she attempted multiple times to access Kosette’s website from her home in New York County but encountered numerous barriers that prevented her from completing a purchase. She specifically wanted to buy the “Kosette Beauty Box — MD’s Pick,” which she found appealing due to its dermatologist-approved skincare items.
The lawsuit highlights several accessibility issues on Kosette’s website, including missing alternative text for images, broken links, and elements requiring mouse interaction without keyboard alternatives. These barriers allegedly prevent screen readers from properly interpreting web content for blind users. Alexandria argues that these deficiencies constitute discrimination under the ADA and New York City Human Rights Law (NYCHRL), as they deny her full and equal enjoyment of goods and services available to sighted customers.
Alexandria seeks a permanent injunction compelling Kosette to modify its corporate policies and practices to ensure ongoing compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 standards. The plaintiff also requests compensatory damages for herself and other similarly affected individuals within New York City who have been denied access due to these alleged violations.
Representing Alexandria is attorney Rami Salim of Stein Saks PLLC. The case has been assigned Case No.: 25-cv-9857 in front of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.
