Plaintiff alleges luxury brand’s website violates ADA due to inaccessibility

A class action lawsuit has been filed against a luxury fashion brand, alleging its website is inaccessible to visually impaired users. On February 23, 2026, Benjamin Butler filed the complaint in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York against Louis Vuitton North America, Inc. and Louis Vuitton Malletier S.A.S., claiming violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) due to their website’s lack of accessibility for blind and visually impaired individuals.

Benjamin Butler, a legally blind resident of New York County who relies on screen reader software to navigate digital environments, accuses Louis Vuitton of failing to ensure their website is accessible. According to Butler, this oversight violates Title III of the ADA, which mandates that goods and services offered by public accommodations be equally accessible to all individuals, including those with disabilities. Butler claims he encountered multiple barriers while attempting to browse and purchase luxury goods from Louis Vuitton’s website using his NonVisual Desktop Access (NVDA) screen reader software. These barriers included missing alternative text for product images, improperly structured information, keyboard inaccessibility, unpredictable focus order, unlabeled controls, absence of instructions, misuse of ARIA attributes, and unannounced status messages.

The plaintiff argues that these issues prevent him and other visually impaired individuals from having full and equal access to Louis Vuitton’s products and services. The lawsuit seeks injunctive relief requiring Louis Vuitton to remediate these accessibility barriers in compliance with WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards. Additionally, Butler requests a permanent injunction compelling the defendants to bring their website into compliance with federal accessibility standards.

Butler’s legal representation is provided by Robert Schonfeld of Joseph & Norinsberg LLC. The case has been assigned Case ID 1:26-cv-01497 in front of an unspecified judge.
