A popular New York pizza establishment is facing legal action over allegations of disability discrimination. On November 30, 2025, Namel Norris filed a complaint in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York against Magui’s Ciao Bella Pizza Corp. and Guisar Realty Corp., citing violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), as well as state and city human rights laws.

Namel Norris, a paraplegic who uses a wheelchair, claims that he was denied full access to Ciao Bella Pizza due to architectural barriers that violate the ADA. The lawsuit details numerous accessibility issues at the pizzeria located at 257 7th Avenue, including inaccessible entrances and facilities such as counters and restrooms that do not comply with ADA standards. Norris alleges that these barriers prevented him from enjoying the restaurant’s services and facilities, which are supposed to be accessible to all patrons regardless of their physical abilities.

The complaint outlines several specific violations under federal and local laws. These include failure to provide an accessible entrance due to steps without a compliant ramp or lift, inaccessible food serving counters, and inadequate restroom facilities lacking proper space for maneuverability or necessary grab bars. Additionally, Norris points out other obstacles like high condiment stations and beverage shelves that are out of reach for someone in a wheelchair.

Norris argues that these conditions have caused him injury by denying him equal access and enjoyment of public accommodations. As an award-winning Hip-Hop/Rap artist residing in New York City, he frequently visits areas near the pizzeria for professional collaborations and social activities but has been unable to patronize this particular establishment due to its non-compliance with accessibility standards.

The plaintiff seeks injunctive relief requiring the defendants to make necessary modifications to their property to ensure compliance with ADA regulations. He also requests compensatory damages amounting to $1,500 under state human rights laws, along with punitive damages for willful discriminatory conduct. Furthermore, Norris demands coverage of attorney’s fees and associated legal costs incurred during this litigation process.

Represented by attorneys B. Bradley Weitz and Robert J. Mirel from The Weitz Law Firm P.A., Norris aims not only for personal redress but also hopes this case will prompt broader changes ensuring accessibility for individuals with disabilities across similar establishments in New York City.

Judge presiding over this case is yet unnamed as proceedings commence under Case ID: 1:25-cv-09940.
