In a striking legal battle, an employee has filed a lawsuit against her former employer, alleging a series of discriminatory practices and retaliation. On February 2, 2026, Tomika Edwards filed a complaint in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York against Deloitte LLP. The lawsuit claims that Edwards faced racial discrimination and was subjected to an unsafe work environment during her tenure at the company.
Tomika Edwards, an African American woman who served as a Senior Workflow Coordinator at Deloitte for nearly nine years, accuses the company of creating a hostile work environment marked by racial discrimination and neglect of safety concerns. According to the complaint, Edwards repeatedly reported issues ranging from micromanagement to being overlooked for promotions in favor of less experienced Caucasian colleagues. Despite these complaints, she alleges that no action was taken by her supervisors or the company’s security team. “The unlawful practices were so pervasive that they altered the conditions of my employment,” Edwards stated in her filing.
Edwards further details how she was forced to work alone in Deloitte’s Welcome Center, where she felt unsafe due to frequent visits from homeless individuals and others with mental impairments. Her repeated requests for additional security measures went unanswered. In one alarming incident on March 27, 2024, Edwards was verbally assaulted with racial slurs and nearly physically attacked by a visitor. The police were notified but no substantial action was taken by Deloitte to address her safety concerns or prevent future occurrences.
The complaint also highlights several instances where Edwards’ performance reviews were negatively impacted following her complaints about discrimination. She claims these reviews were retaliatory actions designed to undermine her credibility and career progression within the company. Despite being tasked with training new employees, including those promoted over her, Edwards did not receive comparable raises or opportunities for advancement.
Edwards is seeking comprehensive relief from the court including injunctive relief to prevent further discriminatory practices at Deloitte, compensatory damages for emotional distress and lost wages, punitive damages to deter future misconduct by the defendant, and coverage of legal fees incurred during this process.
Represented by Crystal Pettiford Law LLC based in Bellport, New York, Tomika Edwards aims to hold Deloitte accountable under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 as well as New York State Human Rights Law and New York City Administrative Code provisions. The case has been assigned Case ID 1:26-cv-01069 with Judge presiding over it yet unnamed.
