The New York State Unified Court System announced on Mar. 23 that it will hold an Introduction to Practice in New York Courts and Judicial Career Fair on Thursday, April 16, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The event aims to inform attendees about the workings of the court system and possible legal careers within it. The program will take place at the New York City Civil Court, located at 111 Centre St.

Participants will have the chance to learn about legal jurisdiction, different types of cases, and how court administration functions. Information about judicial internships and court attorney positions will also be available.

Supervising Judge L. Austin D’Souza and Supreme Court Justice Jeanine R. Johnson are scheduled to speak at the event. They will discuss various roles lawyers can have in the courts such as serving as a clerk for a judge, working as a “pool” attorney in law departments, or acting as a court attorney-referee. The judges also plan to explain what each type of court does and share insights into how the Office of Court Administration manages courts across the state.

Attendees are encouraged to bring copies of their resumes for networking opportunities.
