Jay Clayton, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, has announced new leadership appointments for the White Plains Division. Jeff C. Coffman and Benjamin Klein have been selected as Chiefs of the division, succeeding Perry Carbone, who is retiring from his role as Chief of the Office’s Criminal Division.

Coffman joined the office in 2018 as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Criminal Division after serving in similar roles in both the Northern District of New York and the District of Columbia. Before his prosecutorial career, Coffman worked at Trout Cacheris, PLLC and co-founded a law firm in Washington, D.C. He holds degrees from Virginia Tech and Georgetown University Law Center and clerked for Hon. James C. Cacheris.

Klein became part of the office in 2021 as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Criminal Division. His previous experience includes working at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz. Klein graduated from Cornell University and Yale Law School, where he contributed to The Yale Law Journal before clerking for Honorable Thomas M. Hardiman.

“I am pleased to announce the selection of Jeff Coffman and Ben Klein as co-chiefs of the Office’s White Plains division,” stated U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton. “Jeff and Ben will bring a wealth of prosecutorial talent and experience to lead the critically impactful work of the division.”

Clayton expressed gratitude towards Perry Carbone for his service: “On behalf of the hundreds of women and men of the Southern District who have benefited from working with Perry Carbone, I say thank you, Perry, for your commitment to justice.” He also acknowledged Margery Feinzig’s role during this transition: “Her steady leadership…ensured that the White Plains Division continued to function at the highest level.”
